Cork Internet eXchange

CIX is Cork City’s only fully resilient, professional and commercial data centre. The data centre has been operating since March 2008 and is owned by the Chip eServices group which has been involved in IT in Cork for more than thirty years. CIX is a leading provider of green mission-critical colocation services. The data centre is a carrier-neutral IP PoP offering peering and cost-effective backhaul for the Munster region to large and small businesses, ISPs and WISPs.

Power

The facility has a 1MW 10kV mains ring connection supported by an FG Wilson diesel generator. Dual power paths are maintained through the facility, each path supported by GE PurePulse UPS systems operated in SuperEco mode.

Cooling

A hyper-efficient cooling system has been implmented in CIX, utilising cold-aisle containment, dynamic chiller setpoint, and free-cooling technology. The water-based cooling system is dual circuit.

Connectivity

CIX has multiple fibre duct entry points plus a 24m telecommunications mast, with excellent visibility of the region.  Fibre providers into CIX are, BT, Smart, Complete (Tiscali), eNet, Magnet and Verizon.  Wireless providers are Amocom, Airwave, Smart, Nova Networks and East Cork Broadband.

Security

A manned Network Operations Centre (NOC) monitors the facility and all critical processes. A Nitrogen based fire suppression system operates within the data centre.
