Our initial UPSs installed
Sep
2007
Our first two Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) were installed and wired during the week.
The UPSs are 200kVA General Electric SG Series UPSs. These UPSs, in Super Eco mode, operate at an incredible 98.4% efficiency at 50% usage.

The room in which they are installed was designed to take another six of these UPSs and they will be added using GE’s redundant parallel architecture, as they are needed.
The battery racks for the UPS’s are also now in place and wired.

Each bank is 60 batteries in 2 banks of 30 to give approx 400V. They are designed to give 20 minutes power to the DC at half-load (or 10 minutes if one battery bank fails). They will only ever be at half-load in the event of no failure.
Again, the room in which they are installed is designed to take another six similar battery banks which will be added as they are required.
Currently we are awaiting for the Irish electrical supply company ESB Networks to wire up our substation. We expect this to happen in the coming weeks.
