Hi Tom, thanks for the response, I'm glad to hear that you spoke to the contractor.

I've been too long working on major sites now where the safety standards are well above the norm for smaller sites.

I'm very happy to hear that the boys will be wearing Personal Protective Eqpt (PPE) from now on, and if there's any vehicle movement on site, they should really wear the hi-vis vests as well, it makes them so much easier to see.

Thanks for taking my feedback on board and let me know if you have any queries, I should be able to rustle up an EHS professional down your neck of the woods should you like a chat.

Hey Elly,

thanks for your comment - good points.

I had a long chat with the building contractor and raised the points you brought up.

His response was that all his workers wear steel toe-capped boots (or wellingtons). He went on to say that he doesn't ask his workers to wear hard hats until the works are above ground height.

I told him that I'd prefer if his workers started wearing safety gear straightaway.

Thanks again.

Wow, I'm surprised that you would post pictures like that, your workers aren't very safe looking in them.

Material Safety Data Sheets for concrete advise wearing hand and eye protection when dealing with wet concrete, due to the risk of dermatitis and ulceration.

I would have also expect all construction sites in Ireland to require hard hats, visi-vests and steel toed-&-soled boots at this point, they have been well proved to reduce the rate of recordable injuries and DAWC.

Hardly a good advertisement...
